FIRE IN VICTORIA STREET.

At 6.30 last evening, 'ft fire occurred in the -premises of Mr Sharpies' fancy goods warehouse, at the corner of Victoria and Salisbury streets, and in a very short time the entire building, which was of wood, was in flames. A part of the stock, such as some crockery and furniture, was saved before the fire got hold of the front portion of the premises, but no considerable part thereof could be rescued, and the spread of the fire was so rapid that the building was destroyed before the Eire Brigade had time to arrive. Enquiry at to the circumstances elicited from Mr Sharpies the statement that he was working in his shop when the fire broke out, it having originated in the back, by what means he was unable to suggest. The building (which belonged to Mr A. Appleby) was insured in the Sun office for £125, and the stock was insured for £125 in the same office.
