LEESTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of this committee was held at Leeston on Friday last. Present—All the members. Mr Barnett in the chair. Correspondence was read from the Board in reply, stating that the Board had no funds for granting a retiring allowance to Mrs Smith, of the side school, Doyleaton. From the same, advising payment to the committee’s credit at the Bank of New Zealand of £35 7s 6d for salaries, and also stating that if a member of the committee leave the district in which he was elected a committeiman he can no longer retain his seat on the committee. Mr T. S. Lewis, who now resides at Southbridge, therefore retired from the committee, os he was no longer qualified, Mrs Smith reported that the average attendance at the Doyleaton school for the quarter ending . September was forty out of fifty-four on the books. Mr Ford reported that the average at the Leeston school for the quarter was 128
