LYTTELTON REGATTA, 1880.

A public meeting was held in the Colonists' Hall, Lyttelton, on Friday night, in responso to the call of the Mayor, for the purpose of receiving the report and bt lance -sheet of the Regatta of 1879, and to arrange for tho coming one of 1880. The Mayor and there were very few present. It appeared from the balance-sheet that a balance remained to the credit of the fund from last year of £34 Is 3d, and as the chairman pointed out this would have been just £25 more had the committee not been compelled to pay a sum of £25 to the winners of the Shaw Saville Cup, that prize not having been received by them from Messrs Shaw, Savill and Co. Repeated application had been made to the local representatives of that firm by the committee, for either the cup itself as promised, or a cheque for its value stated to be £25, but to the present neither the one nor the other had been handed over. The report and balance-sheet as read were adopted, and the following resolutions moved and carried :— " That the usual regatta be held on January Ist, 1880." "That Mr R. Macfarlane be hon. treasurer." "That Mr W. H. Lnnce be hon. secretary." "That the following gentlemen be a committee, with full power to elect tho commodore and other officers, and to do all that is necessary to carry out the regatta: —Messrs H. Allwright, P.
