MISCELLANEOUS ELECTION ITEMS.
GERALDINE, September 5,
Mr Feldwick addressed a fairly attended meeting at the Oddfellows’ Hall to-night. He criticised the Governor’s speech, and was in favor of it as a thorough liberal measure. He was closely questioned. Votes of thanks and confidence were supported by seventeen votes. The chairman said some held up both hands to get this number ; an amendment of thanks only fourteen voted for it, mostly influential electors. Neither motions nor amendment wore declared carried, on account of several holding up both hands for the motion. TIMARU, September 5. There is intense excitement over the Timaru election which takes place to-morrow. Both sides are working very hard. A week ago 10 to 1 was given on Mr Turnbull, now 2to 1 cannot be got. Mr Woolcombo will get very nearly the block Catholic vote. Mr Turnbull’s strength lies in the town, while it is believed Mr Wooleombe is safe for a large country majority. DUNEDIN, Septembers. It is rumored that the Government party will endeavor to bring ItO miners from Hyde tomorrow to vote at Mackae’s (in Waikouaiti electoral district) against Mr G. McLean.
