CANTERBURY COLLEGE.
A special meeting of the Board of Governors of the Canterbury College was held yesterday. Present —The Primate, Rev. C. Fraser, Dr. Coward, Messrs Tancred, Reeves, Webb, Fereday, Mallet, Inglis, Tosswill. Mr Malet was voted to the chair. RESIGNATION. Mr R. J. S. Harman forwarded his resignation of his seat as a governor, and the chairman declared the seat vacant. Nominations to be received at next meeting. ESTATES COMMITTEE The report of the estates committee was rend, and the chairman authorised to affix the seal of the Board to various leases MUSEUM COMMITTEE. The report of the Museum committee was read, recommending that the sum of fifty guineas be voted to Professor von Haast to defray his expenses to Sydney to procure models, dc., for the school of technical science. Mr Webb moved —“ That the report be adopted.” Mr Roevis seconded the motion. Mr Feroday moved as an amendment —“That the sum be increased to one hundred guineas.” Mr Tosswill seconded the amendment. Dr. Coward asked if it were not a fact that thirty guineas had been voted to Dr. Haast by the Philosophical Institute. Air Fereday said that this was altogether outside the Museum matter. The amendment was negatived, and the original resolution adopted. REPORT OF COLLEGE COMMITTEE. The report of the College committee was read, recommending increase of salary to the porter and clerk ; also that Air Sims be appointed as teacher of class singing in the Girls’ High School; and that the minimum age of boys entering tho Boys’ High School be ten years. The last recommendation was that the extra teachers who were appointed from year to year at the Girls’ High School bo re-appointed for the present year. The report was adopted. AGRICULTURAL SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The report of tho agricultural school committee was read. It recommended that the Board authorise the committee to purchase tho necessary furniture and fittings for the homestead buildings, at a cost not exceeding .£2OOO, such cost to include gas fittings. The committt c recommended the Board to authorise them to call for tenders for the erection of farm buildings at a cost not exceeding .£2500. The committee were authorised to make all arrangements for tho conduct of the matriculation examination.
The report as a whole was adopted, The Board then adjourned.
