CANTERBURY SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.
The monthly committee meeting was held on Monday night, in the rooms of the Young Men’s Christian Association. The following schools wore represented: Durham street and Crescent road, Wesleyan ; Manchester street, Phillipstown, Congregational; Colombo road, Bingsland, United Methodist Free Church ; Oxford terrace, Baptist; St. Paul’s Presbyterian. The president occupied the chair. Kumara and Tinwald Presbyterian schools were admitted to the Union, On the question of side schools, it was resolved that all schools holding teachers’ meetings should be considered separate schools. The trade department was reported as being in a very satisfactory position. On the recommendation of the sub-committee, it was decided to establish a Sunday school mission. The consideration of the teachers’ examination was deferred till next meeting. The scale of charges for the dissolving views was altered to 15s for schools with not more than 100 scholars on the roll, £1 up to 150, £1 5s to 200, and then advancing 10a per 100 or fraction of XOO. Correspondence was read from the Auckland Union rc centenary. A vote of thanks to the office-bearers of the Congregational Church for the use of the room for so many years past was carried unanimously. The meeting opened and closed with prayer.
