AVON ELECTION.
The nomination for the Avon district took place at noon to-day. The amount of excitement which convulsed the pretty village of Papanui may _bo gathered from the fact that at the time of the Eeturning Officer reading the writ only one elector was present. Subsequently, the candidate and his pro- - poser and seconder came up, and then one or two more strolled up. Altogether there were about half-a-dozen present. The Beturning Officer, Mr Or. L. Lee, read . the writ, and called for nominations. Mr W. Norman said that he had much pleasure in nominating Mr William Bolleston as a candidate. Mr Bolleston’s good qualities were well known as having got Canterbury out of what nearly approached bankruptcy. Under his rule the province had been prosperous, and ho felt sure that Mr Bolleston • would do his duty faithfully and well by the district. Mr Adams seconded the nomination. The Eoturnine Officer then declared Mr Bolleston duly elected to serve as representative of the Avon district in the General Assembly. Mr Bolleston briefly addressed those present, and a vote of thanks to the Beturning Officer concluded the proceedings.
