MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
OHEIBTCHUEOH. Thursday, August 28. (Before his Worship the Mayor, and D. Caro, Esq., J.P.) Drunk and Disorderly. —One woman was fined 10s, or in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. Larceny. —William Eyan was charged with stealing a Maori kit from the shop of John Weatloy. He pleaded guilty. Sergeant Morice stated that the prisoner had the previous day taken two great coats to the pawnshop of Samuel Stewart for the purpose of raising money upon them, but as he refused to say how he became possessed of them, and ; there was great reason to believe they had been stolen, ho -would ask the Bench to remand the prisoner until next Monday that enquiries might be made as to the ownership of the garments. One was a great coat and the other an Ulster with a band round it. The coats are at the depot for identification. The prisoner was accordingly remanded until Monday.
