the budget. The Government had a majority of four. MELBOURNE, August 21. An unexampled scene of violence took place in the Legislative Assembly last night between Mr D. Gaunson, member for Ararat, and the Hon. J. B. Patterson, Minister of Public Works. The division on the Budget is expected to tako place to-night. The Commercial Bank of Australia has resolved to increase its capital to £2,000,000. SYDNEY, August 21. The Austrian corvette Heligoland has arrived, bringing the commissioner and exhibits for the International Exhibition. BRISBANE, August 21. In the Legislative Assembly, the Opposition are opposing the Loan estimates. A vote of £IOO,OOO for immigration was passed. ADELAIDE, August 21. Arrived —City of London. Intelligence respecting the Lancefield sticking up states that Laneefleld is situated sixteen miles from tho railway line, and between thirty and forty miles from Melbourne. Expecting a raid the police cautioned the Bank authorities some time back, and special troopers were sent to the locality, but on this occasion one was absent in Melbourne. The Commercial Bank is the only one in the township, and is situated at the intersection of the two principal streets, and thirty yards away from the police camp, the two buildings being only divided by?a fence. When the two men i entered, the younger took out a pocket book, and turned over the leaves. The other man then said—" We are the Kelly's, and have secured the police," at the same time presenting a revolver at Morrison. They afterwards took out a piece of rope, and tied and gagged him. Tho younger man then went round the counter, but healing a noise in the dwelling house put up the chain of the door leading to it. One man then ocened the teller's drawer, and took out all tne money. He asked for the key of the safe, and Morrison said the safe was open. They found this statement correct, and took out £IOO in notes, asking if that was all the money in the Bank. Morrison replied in the affirmative, but the fact was there was £IOOO in the Bank at the time. When the men were at the safe Morrison, though gagged, murmured that £lO of the money in the safe wpi bis own, and the elder made the younger retuu it. After having obtained all the money they could get, they decamped. When Musty, a creditor, came into the bank end was bailed up, he thought it was a joke. He was locked up in the manager's room, and seized the oppoitunity to Hde b ; s money (£200) under the hearthrug. It was stated in the Assembly that the Government declined to relieve the Meat Pre« serving and other industries affected by the stock tax. Mr Berry stated that, so far as he could see, all the £SOOO voted world be absorbed by the embassy. The oelebrated brood mare Bose de Florence, dam of Maribyrnong and others, died of old age. The Exhibition Commissioners say they believe that the interest of the colony will be advanced by the educational effects of the Exhibition upoa the people of Victoria, and that an increase of revenue wi'l accrue from the amounts paid on dutiable goods and from the railway traffic returns. The entries for the Sydney Exhibition have closed.

The Collingwood Coffee Palace Company's report shows satisfaotoi/ progress. The Bishop of Melbourne has called a Church Assembly for the 4th of September. His Excellency the Governor has consented to become patron of the Rifle Association. Thn Aral-, wnnl of the season has arrived. Messrs Money Wigram's steamship Northumberland proceeds on to Sydney, and other vessels in the same line will go there. LAUNOESTON, August 16. A payable alluvial goldfield has been discovered at Boobyalla River, on the north-east coast.
