The first entertainment in connection with the parish of Sr. Luke, was given yesterday evening in the new schoolroom, the Kev. E. A. Lingard presiding. The following programme was gone through : Overture, pianoforte, Mr Neville Barnett; song, “The Blacksmith.” Boohford Snow; reading, “ Pathor Phil’s subscription list,” from Handy Andy, Rev. P. O. Anderson; song, “ The guardian angel,” H. Smith ; song, “ Come back to Erin,” Mrs Barnett; song, “ Yeoman’s wedding,” E. P. Gueritz; reading from “Elbow Room,” by Mux Adeler, Mr Guise Brittan ; song, •* Annabel Lee,” Thomas H. Barnett ; duet, “ All’s well,” H. Crooks and G. Alexander ; song, " Title sea is England’s glory,” Rochford Snow; song, “ The blind girl to her harp,” Mrs Barnett ; song, “ A sailor’s life for me,” T. H. Barnett; song, “ The goldbeater,” Rev. E. A. Lingard ; song, “ The Message,” Mr Appleby. In the course of the evening the chairman took the opportunity of stating under what circumstances the new schoolroom had been built. Not deeming it at present advisable to call upon the parishioners to contribute the cost of the building, and at tho same time the necessity of its erection being urgent, it was decided to liquidate the cost—£Bso—by taking investment shares in the Permanent Loan Association. It was also proposed to devote the proceeds of the entertainments, of which they contemplated giving five, to paying tho premiums on the shares. The sale of the old school as it stood realised £35, and the first concert given in the school had increased that sum by £2O, making in all £55 towards the expense of the structure. The chairman concluded his remarks by thanking those who had contributed to the entertainment, and solicited the co-operation of volunteers for the future ones.
