CUSTOMS RETURNS.
WELLINGTON, July 17,
Tho Customs returns for tho quarter ending 30th June are published, showing a revenue of £278,636 as against £303,544, a decrease of £24 908. Spirits, cigars, and tobacco show
the heaviest falling off, except tea and sugar, but the decrease on these would be accounted for to a large extent by the lessening of the duty. The Customs revenue for the year ending June 30th was £1,309,514. The quantity of gold exported during the first half of the present year was 147,7140z5, of the value of £589,665. During the corresponding period last year the amount exported was 177,7990z5, of the value of £711,301. . . , The Customs returns for the principal Ports for the quarter are Auckland, £47,575; Dunedin, £76,785 ; Lyttelton, £48,546 ; Wellington, £40,737.
