CABLE_NEWS. AUSTRALIA. SPECIAL TO THE GLOBS. SYDNEY, July 10. The estimates of expenditure on works for the year 1879 amount to £7,700,000. A political crisis has occurred. Sir H. Parkes’ resolution proposed an elective Council. Opinions are divided on the subject. A few fresh appointments to the Council would effect a remedy. The Council is popular, owing to its rejection of crude, injurious measures. The Buryalus, of five thousand horsepower, succeeds the Wolverine. The Cormorant is fitting out to meet Sir A. Gordon at Pingo-Pingo, and cruise among the islands to maintain British influence. It is understood that a British man-of-war will move frequently around the islands, to counteract German movements. The Legislative Assembly has passed the Loan Bill in tno estimates. The items providing for the extension of the railway into Sydney wore omitted. SYDNEY, July 10. Padman and Company, iron merchants, have assigned. Their liabilities are £4OOO. In the intercolonial football match, Victoria v South Australia, the latter was overmatched and lost. QUEENSLAND, July 5. Tho Assembly voted £250 per annum, to Lady O’Connell. Further experiments in salting beef, hy infiltration were highly successful.
