MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, Junk 23. (Before T. M. Hassal, Esq, J.P., and His Worship the Mayor.) Dkunk and Disorderly.—One drunkard was fine! 20s or in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment, one 10s or twenty-four hours’ imprisonment, and one first offender ss. Larceny.— John Parker was charged with stealing a great coat and pair of leggings value £4 Ili, the properly of GLorge Taylor Ohisnall. From the evidence of Robert Plunkett, a salesman in the employ of Mr Ohisnall, Cookham House, Colombo street, it appeared that the prisoner took the articles from the shop door when they wore exposed for sale last Saturday evening. He followed him and brought him back to the shop, ai d gave him into custody. Constable GUackin deposed that the prisoner was given into bis charge for stealing the coat and leggings produced in Court. The prisoner asked the witnesses no questions, and admitted having taken the coat, buf denied taking the leggings. He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor. Lunacy. —Williim Donald Culbert, charged with lunacy arising from intemperate habits, was remanded for eight days to Lyttelton for medical treatment.
