KAIAPOI BOROUGH SCHOOL.

The monthly meeting of this committee was held on Monday, June 10th. Present all the members. From head master, reporting dismissal of an infant scholar, eight years old, for being incorrigibly disobedient and untruthful ; recommending the last two weeks of June .for winter holidays, and forwarding returns showing the number on roll to bn 360 and the average attendance 260; also forwarding returns of non-attenders to be dealt with under the compulsory clauses of the Act. From Mrs Skilton, complaining of the treatment of her son at the school. It was decided to give holidays from 14th to 28th, and that the Board be asked to have the alterations and ventilation of the schools attended to. In reference to the pupil dismissed from the infants’department, it was decided that the chairman see the master with a view to his being taken into his room. With respect to Mrs Skilton's letter, as the committee were informed that persons frequently interrupted the school by going there to scold the teachers, it was decided that she fee informed that persona upbraiding and insulting the teachers at the school aro liable to a penalty of 40s for each offence, and that atepa will be taken to enforce the same against future offenders. The Chairman reported that about eighteen had signified an intention joining an evening school if established and the head master was favorable to the same at the fees agreed upon. On the motion of Mr Mathews, it was decided that the head master be allowed the school for evening classes and a fee of Is each pupil per week bo approved of. The committee resolved to apply for payment of the quarterly allowance for incidental expenses to he made monthly. Mr Mathews moved, Mr Coup seconded—‘ ‘ That the Board be asked if the fines inflicted under the compulaory clauses of the Act could be paid to the committee to reimburse the expenses of putting the same in operation.” The committee -then adjourned.
