RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
Tho fourth and last meeting of the season was hold at the Cashmere range on Saturday last, commencing at 9 a.m. The number of competitors was very small, but thirteen entering the lists. It would really seem that the association must die out, in spite of the efforts of a few zealous ones to maintain it. The weather on Saturday was fine, bub in spite thereof but few good scores were made. Fox and Buckley did well, so did Chapman in the first match, but some of the old shots were out of sorts altogether. Little or no {iractice has been had by most of them of ate; to that and the change of Besson may be attributed their falling off. The President’s prize (Mr Wynn Williams’) was a very fitting and useful one. It was a silver breakfast cruet, the handle in tho form of a kneeling rifleman, the bell tents covering the pepper and mustard glasses, and a kettle-drum doing duty for mustard pot. These articles were of burnished silver on frosted ground. Messrs Petersen’s challenge cup was won by Sergeant Buckley of the Engineers for tho second time, and having made more than five points in advance of any non-winner, thus secures it absolutely. The cup is of solid silver, value twenty guineas, and was presented by Messrs Petersen at the commencement of the season.
The following are the scores made in the matches :
President’s Match- Seven shots each at two ranges. First, President’s priza, value £5 ss, and four money prizes.
