HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A meeting of this society was held last evening at the Commercial Hotel. The president, Mr E. 0. J. Stevens, occupied the chair. The other members present were Messrs A. Duncan, J. Guntrip, S. Manning, J. Gray, T. Allen, W. Gimblett, F. Jones, and the secretary. On the motion of Mr S. Manning, it was resolved that the president, treasurer, Mr A. Duncan, and the secretary be a sub-committee to revise the schedule. On the motion of Mr A. Duncan, it was resolved that the sub-committee be requested to take into consideration the advisability of bringing the chrysanthemum into more prominence by arranging for a show at the close of the next season, and also the increase of the amount offered for the collection of vegetables at tho first show of the season. Tho secretary reported that he had received an intimation from Mr A. Forsyth, of Oamaru, of his intention of offering a prize of a

guinea as a prizo for chrysanthemums next season, should the society hold a show. The secretary was instructed to convey the thanks of the society to Mr Forsyth for ids kind offer. The following gentlemen intimated their intention to place the same amounts at the disposal of the committee for extra prizes during the coming season, as they did during the one just closed, viz., the president, Hon. John Hall, Messrs Dnncan and Son, S. Manning, J. Q-untrip, T. Allen, and J, Greenaway. Resolved that tho treasurer be instructed to place tho sum of £IOO at interest for six months. A voto of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
