LINES SUGGESTED BY A LATE INCIDENT IN THE CITY COUNCIL.
It fell upon a wintry day The City Council met, Some Councillors had said their scy, And some had not, “you bet.” Kaitangata they did discuss —■ The handling of tho cash : “What shall we do with the surplus ? We must not bo too rash.”
Sir Gapiua he got up, and in his pleasant way Began to make his littlo speech, And thus to them did say—- “ Gentlemen, I’m not'going to preach—” When up rose great Wilsonius, And said in tones of thunder : “ You need not speak, Sir Gapiua, How dare you try, I wonder. Your xr ; nd and stature are so small ’Twero best you should not speak at all.”
Gentle Sir Gapiua then arose, A frown was on his brow, He left tho room —without reply, He scorned to make a row.
Now, Great Wilsonius, take advice. Don’t sneer at little men : Some deeds of yours not over nice To our minds may come again. Sir Oracle you think you are, You’ve eye too much to say; Think of the good old proverb—- “ Each dog must have his hay," Nemo.
