CANTERBURY COURSING CLUB.

A meeting of the stewards was held on Tuesday evening, May 27th, at the Shades for the purpose of presenting the winners of the several events with the prizes. In the unavoidable absence of the hon. treasurer, Mr H. V. Anson, the presentation was confined to the Birthday Cup and the Publicans' Stakes. On receipt of the cheques from the treasurer, the money prizes will be forwarded to the respective winners by the secretary, Mr Walker. Tho Birthday Cup, having been christened with champagne, was presented to Mr A. Duncan, the owner of Blue Bell, who carried off tho victory from Young Ridley. The Publicans' Plate, which consisted of two ma3Bive silver tankards, went to Mr Miles, the owner of Tam O'Shsnter. The ceremony of prize bostowing was enlivened by the singing of some excellent songs, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The Maiden Puppy stakes and the Ohristchurch stakes will be run on June 17th and 18th, nomination for which events must be made to the secretary not later than June 2nd. In consequence of the unruly behaviour of the spectators at the recent meeting, which the stewards were utterly unable to control, there ia a strong probability that the next meeting will be held at some distance from Ohristchurch, and the club will if possible make Buch arrangements as to locality as will suit all genuine lovers of coursing whether interested or otherwise.
