ELLESMERE DOMAIN BOARD.
A meeting of the above Board was held on Monday, the sth May, at Southbridge. Present —Messrs W. Graham (in the chair), Bishop, Lemon, McKellar, and Desborough. A letter was read from Mr E. J. Lee, informing the Board that the sum of £2OO had been apportioned for the Ellesmere recreation reserve by the Selwyn County Council out of the grant for cemeteries and reserves. The chairman was requested to acknowledge the letter, and convey a special vote of thanks to Mr Lee, also to have the money placed to the Board’s credit with the Union Bank of Australia, Southbridge. Correspondence with Messrs Hanmer and Harper, re lease of reserve, was read. The chairman was empowered to write to the Under Secretary for Crown Lands, requesting that the special powers vested in the Governor by the Public Domains Act, 1860, might be exercised by this Board in accordance with the opinion expressed by their solicitors. The most advantageous manner of dealing with the funds was fully discussed, and it was decided to call for tenders returnable on the 2nd June for ploughing and fencing on the north-west, west, and south sides of the reserves a belt a chain wide, so that a plantation might be commenced with as little delay as possible. The chairman and Mr Bishop undertook to communicate with the tenants, and Mr Desborough promised to advertise for tenders and prepare specifications for the work arranged for.
