TE WHITI’S IMPUDENCE,

Te Whiti has ordered the settlers and constables to leave Opunake, and Messrs Mackay and Blake’s negotiations have not yet concluded successfully. Wellington, April 22. The “ Chronicle ” to-night issues the following extra : —“ Latest telegrams state that Te Whiti has ordered all tho Europeans away from that settlement, and has adopted a most offensive attitude.” THE BUMOE CONTSADICTKD. It is understood that tho Government have received a telegram stating that Te Whiti did not order tho settlers and constabulary away from Opunake, and that ho is as earnest as ever in deprecating violence of any kind, and that tho real fact of the Mie is that a boastful swaggering Maori, named Wurarai, was in Opunake, and asked what those Europeans were doing there and why did they not clear out, but that in doing so he represented no one but himself.
