[PEB PBBSB AGENCY.] Wellington, April 17. Edward Peel, for stealing a quantity of nails from Guthrie and Larnach’s store, has been sentenced to two year’s imprisonment. Ninety-five civil cases were down for hearing at the R.M. Court this morning. The Hon. Mr Sheehan arrived this morning Now Plymouth. The Native Crisis. Private telegrams from New Plymouth and the West Coast state that the Waimate difficulty is practically settled, and all trouble is averted. Wellington, April 17. William Hart, for larceny from a dwelling, was acquitted. This closed the criminal session of the Supremo Court. The Governor was formally sworn in at noon by Justice Richmond. New Plymouth, April 17. The case of Joshua Jones and McMullan for assault with intent to murder at Mokau was withdrawn to-day, by consent of the Court. Inspector Bullen stated ho had inquired into the circumstances and considertdthat the interests of justice would not suffer by the withdrawal. The Workshop Question. Dunedin, April 17. Mr Macandrew telegraphs to Mr Oliver:— “You must be under some misapprehension re Addington workshops. You cannot mean that there are to be no workshops in Canterbury, or that the removal of existing workshops from Christchurch to Addington, is detrimental to Dunedin, or implies that the principal railway workshops in the Middle Island are to bo at Addington. The railway station ground at Christchurch is required for other purposes. Hence the removal of the shops to Addington as provided for by the Appropriation Act. Regrtt this should offend mercantile people at Dunedin.

[PROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Nelson, April 17. In the Supremo Court last night Samuel Eden, charged with perjury, was acquitted. The case of McNamara against the Norwich Union Insurance Company is now proceeding, lu this case, the plaintiff’s claim was refused on the ground that the stock destroyed in his store, which was burnt, was largely over-insured. The claim is for iJGOO.
