[Press Special Wire.] Auckland, April 14. At the races to-day there was a good attendance. Tradesmen's Plate, handicap of 50 sovs. One mile. Mr Mclvor's Poop o'Day, 7st 121 b 1 Mr Day's Isaac Walton, 7at 12lb 2 Mr Hunt's Yattapa. Gst 131 b 3 Mr McDonald's Merlin, Mr Fdward's Parawhenua, Mr Leonard's Malvern, Mr Buekland's Omega, Mr Cotton's Gillie Galium, Mr Hickey's Little Wonder, Mr Kelly's Joe Leonard, and Mr Wilson's Jessamine also ran. Betting—Even money on Peep o'Day, 6 to ■!• agst Isaac Walton, 2 to 1 agst Parawhenua. All the horses, eleven in number, faced the starter, and were despatched on very even terms. Omega first rounded the hillock at the western end of the course, and thence led the way to the northern end, where Merlin took up the running, and Isaac Walton ran into a placo, and the trio being joined by Pecp-o'Day, a splendid raco ensued up the straight, Isaac looking the winner; but just at the close Peep o'-Day, responding to his jockey, came away and won by a neck. Yattapa was an excellent third. Time, lmin. 4(Hsecß. Hurdle Race, a handicap of . r >o sovs, distance, two and a quarter miles, over nine llights of hurdles.

She was hard held, and it was not till coming up the straight that she wei allowed to dispossess Loafer of the honor. Tho rider of Loafer has entered a protest against Uira on the ground of jostling. Easter Handicap, of 100 sovs., with a sweepstakes of 3 sovs. each, the amount acciaing from sweepstakes to go to second horse. Distance 2 miles. Mr Kent's br g Yattapa, 5 yrs, 6st lib ... 1 Mr Allen's Lalla Kookh, 6st 81b 2 Mr MeTvor's Peep o'Day, G yrs, 7st ... 3 The folio •> ing also ran :—Elsa, 7st; Resolution, 6st '2lb; Giiiie Callum, 6st 01b; Little Wonder, fist 71b ; Loch Lomond, Gst; Xantippe, sst (31b ; and the Don, Gst 71b. Betting—3 to 2on the field. Peep o' Day was favorite, Tamatea, Merlin, and Venus Transit were scratched. This was the race of the day, and the result proved a complete surprise for those who professed to know, Xantippe Becured the advantage of a wretched start, and held first place till near the finish, when came away with a splendid spurt, winning easily. Time—3min, 44secs. A very fast race. NOVEL HANDICAP. Golden Crown 1 Lady Godiva 3 Luna , ' All the horses, except Golden Crown, made ' a false start at first, and went all round the course. When a start was effected Golden ' Crown took the lead, and maintained it vm--1 challenged to the finish.
