OUR VOLUNTEERS.

The head quarter corps are ordered out for inspection parade on Tuesday evening next. The battalion band, having been sworn in during the past week, will bo on parade and commence playing at 7.30 pm. It is expected that a march out will follow commanding officer's inspection. Each company has had extra drill during the past three weeks, in view of their visit to the Invercargill review. This takes place on Easter Monday, The Christchurch contingent; will leave on Thursday next, returning from Invercargill on the following Tuesday morning. The demonstration committee have been very successful in raising funds to meet the expenses, the only cost, to those attending being a payment of fivo shillings. It is very probable that there will be some competitive gun drill amongst the Artillery companies to be present. In such case the E battery will endeavor to maintain its laurels won from the Otago men at the Dunodin review.

The North Otago (Oamaru) Rifle Association has arranged a match meeting to come off on Thursday or Friday following the

n rie -, so that, the Canterbury men may Ufcu pmt m it on their return tioni J..vercargill. A aood prize hst is promised. The first match will be s&ven shots each at the 20U and 300 yards' range, the second 400, 500, and 600 yards, seven ehois at each, the highest aggregate scorer in the two matches to be the winner of the Ladies' Challenge Belt. Tne third match will be a handicap consolation competition (entrance free.), open only to unsuccessful competitors during the meeting, the ranges to be .300 and 400, five shots at each, second class target, any position. The Engineers' Company sent an order to England by the mail for new uniforms, after the pattern of that worn by the Royal Engineers, This includes sealfikm busby (new pattern), with plume in front, scarlet tunic, wi'h white cord trimmings and white patent leather belts. The " New Zealand Volunteer Service Gaz.tte," which contains general information on all Volunteer matters in the colony, and particulars of matches, &c, is now filed at the Prince of Wales Hotel. The Rifle Association provides the copy, which will be found very interesting.
