Work along the wharves was entirely suspended to-day, in consequence of the inclemency of the weather and the son" west gale. The s.s. Rotorna, Captain Carey, arrived at 12.30 p.m. yesterday from Port Chalmers, Bluff, Hobart Town and M elbourne. She left Hobson’s Bay at 3,30 pm. of 18th; arrived at Hobart Town at noon of 20th; left again 7 p.m. ; experienced variable winds and fine weather ; reached the Bluff at noon of 24th, and left at 6 p m. ; arrived at Port Chalmers at 7 a.m. of 25th; sailed at 6 p.m., 26th; encountered strong head winds. She left last night for Sydney via Wellington, East Coast ports and Auckland. . . . The barquentine Swallow, Captain Davis, arrived at midnight on Wednesday from Newcastle, after a run across of eighteen days. She met with easterly weather to Cape Campbell, where a southerly gale was encountered. The wind then veered to the north east, moderate, afterwards south-east, light. The Viudex was still waiting a chance to go on the slip to be cleaned when the Swallow left. ... ... The s.s. Tararna, Captain Sinclair, arrived at noon yesterday from Sydney via Auckland and East Coast ports. She left Sydney on the 15th inst., and experienced strong head winds and sea across, arriving at Auckland, M arch 21st. Left Auckland the following day, and called at Tanranga, Gisborne, Napier, and Wellington, meeting with flue weather along the coast. Sho sailed last evening at half-past five for Melbourne via South aud Hobart Town. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS, Wellington, March 28.
