Maiden Plate of 60 sovs, with a sweep of 3 Bovs each for starters added; weight for age ; distance, 1£ miles. Hailstorm 1 Loch Lomond 2 Kakaroa 3 Railway Stakes of 30 sovs ; weight for age ; distance, i mile; entrance, <£2. Sinking Fund 1 Never Miss 2 Moa 3 Napier Handicap of 150 sovs, with a sweepstake of 5 sovs each added, second horse to receive 20 sovs from the stakes ; distance, 1] miles. Pinfire, Bst 71b ... 1 Lady Elizabeth, 6st 41b 2 Lara, Bst 3 Six started. Sinking Fund was scratched. There was a magnificent race between Pinfire and Lady Elizabeth. Lara made the running for a mile and a half, Ika close up. At the turn for home Pinfire came up. and was immediately challenged by Lady Elizabeth, and the pair came up the straight close together. A splendid race ensued, Pinfire getting his head in front in the last few strides, and winning by a neck.
Corinthian Chi* of 30 sova; two miles ; gentlemen riders ; welter weights. Mr Lyons’ Tamatea ... (Mr G. Heslop) 1 Mr Burnand’s Skysail ". (MrlDower) 2 Mr Renati’s Tawera ... (Mr W. Hislop) 3 This race and the Hack Bace which followed were both run amidst a heavy downpour of rain.
The Hack Eace was won by Darky, Captain second.
