The Sydney Exhibition Commissioners resolved to inform the local committees of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin that they might expect funds up to one hundred pounds in order to meet their expenditure. JACKSON’S CASE, A committee appointed to investigate tho charges of disobedience and insubordination made by the Surveyor General against Mr Henry Jackson, chief surveyor of the Wellington laud district, reported adversely to Mr Jackson. Tho Government decided to call upon tim to resign. It is stated that Mr Jackson charges the Commission with partiality, and intends to petition Parliament for a Select Committee to inquire into the whole matter. VITAL STATISTICS. Rhodes having, owing to some legal technicality, refused to pay more than £2OOO probate duty, tho Government have intimated that legal proceedings will be commenced immediately. A telegraph boy was stuck up last night, near the cemetery, while going to Mr J.B. Wallace’s house with a message. The man rushed out of tho cemetery gate, catching tho boy by the throat, and ordered him to turn out his pockets. The boy’s cries brought Mr Wallace to the rescue. The man made off. It is rumoured that there are gold discoveries on the Lindis It is said that some countyroad men filled up their time, after working hours, by prospecting. Two men are reported to have got fifty ounces in a few weeks. Several claims have been applied for. [from our own correspondent.]
