Blenheim, March 12.
The Blenheim Borough Council have resolved to take the Advantage, offered by the recent lire, to widen the Market place and Alfred streets 101'fc. 6in. The owners, with few exceptions, have met the Council liberally, and offered to exchange the land. It is said that the work can be done for .£3OO or .£4OO. Wellington, March 12. Harbor Defences. Three hundred and forty men from ten companies have accepted tor the Volunteer demonstration. Twenty-eight companies are invited. If the rema nder accept in the same proportion, over a thousand me a will be present. A freejtrip through the Island will doubtless be a great inducement. The public are subscribing well. There are several ten-guinea subscriptions and a large number of five guinea ones.
