In the cricket match the English, in their first innings, made 248, and the Victorians, m their first, 112 for six wickets. Mr Berry telegraphs that he has decided to offer a three million loan at 98, including interest. He adds that the Right Hon. Childers, formerly First Lord of the Admiralty, will probably accept the post of Agent General for Victoria in London, without salary. Mr Berry also states that the Secretary of State for the colonies has not yet replied to bis proposal. Sir M. Hicks-Beach’s dispatch repeats his opinion that the dismissal of the civil servants was not temporary, as Sir G. Bowen reported, as he signed orders for permanent removal. Had Sir G. Bowen acted in the former view when asked, Ministers might have partially retraced their steps, and would probably have overcome the financial difficulty without recourse to measures involving grave objections. Sydney, March 7.
