MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, March 7. [Before GK L. Mellish, E§q., R.M.] Dednk and Disorderly. Two first offenders were fined 5s each. Fraudulent Imposition. Elizabeth Wells, remanded from the 28th February, was charged with imposing on private individuals by false representations in writing. There were four charges against her, and the accused, who was out on bail, on being called, failed to answer to her name. Mr Neck said he appeared for the accused, and there must be some mistake, as he had seen her the previous afternoon, and she had promised to b© at the Court at 10 o’clock. The accused had been admitted to bail on one charge, and her recognizance was estreated, and a warrant ordered to be issued for her aprehension on the others, the witnesses at the same time being ordered to attend in the morning.

LYTTELTON. Friday, Maboh 7. [Before Dr. Donald, and H. Allwright, Esq., .IP] Absent without Leave. —W. MeLeod, cook and steward on board the Marmion, was presented on this charge. He said he left because the stove wouldn’t work well. Sentenced to t n days with hard labor Larceny. —C. Newman, one of the crew of the ship Piako, was charged with stealing a shirt from Ernest Baker, and a coat and pair of pants from James Storey, immigrants by that vessel. Mr Nalder appeared in behalf of the prisoner. Both charges were remanded for trial on Monday next Samuel Hoey was presented for stealing a £lO note from William Wood, described as a shipmaster, on a visit from Wellington.
