THE NATIVE MEETING AT KOHIMARAMA.
[JPi'ess Special Wire.] Auckland, March 5.
The Maori Parliament re-assembled to-day a*fc Orakei. It is computed that the delegates present numbered 300 Natives, chiefly of the Northern tribes.
The following resolutions were unanimously passed to-day: 1. That this meeting condemn the Land Court, surveys, and Crown grants. 2. That the meeting resolves that all land not surveyed shall be retained, and not offered for sa!e.
3. That private purchases should be permitted as well as sales to Government.
4. That no lands should be passed through the Court, except those that have been surveyed.
5. Road Boards and County Councils should have no control over lands owned by Natives, but should have control over lands leased to Europeans. 6 That all lands reserved for Natives should be rendered inalienable for ever.
7. That all mortgaging of land and taking deposits on lands not surveyed be discontinued Several Natives urged that no more Maori members be sent to Parliament, but that a meeting of delegates of the tribes be held annually at Orakei, all contributing towards the expenses. Paera, of Kaipara, said the Parliament at Wellington was too far off to hear the complaints of Maoris, and it was therefore necessary to establish a Parliament of their own.
Most of the chiefs were in favour of allowing European delegates to sit in the annual Maori Parliament. All present are sanguine of the result of the coming meeting at Te Kopua, and express willingness to co-operate. About twenty chiefs will be elected to-morrow to go up.
