Lyttelton, March 5, Arrival of the City of Quebec-
The ship signalled proves to bo the City of Quebec, 708 tons, Captain Falconer, 92 days from London, to Messrs Shaw, Savill, and Co. Passengers—Messrs E. Cogan, C. Cogan, H. Stewart, A. Seldert, A. Owen, and Miss Mary Stewart.
Oamaru, March 5. Eire in Oamaru
At one o’clock this morning a fire broke out in Cogvin’s boarding house, Thames street. It was found impossible to extinguish it. The following places were burned down Cogvin’s boarding house, Currie’s grain store, Lippert’s grocers’ shop, Sedward, tobbacconist, James, bootmaker, Keenan’s boarding house. The cause of the fire is unknown. An inquiry will be held. The insurances were :—South British. £ißo on l.ippert’s shop; -2350 on stock, .£3OO on Cogvin’s house and -2300 on furniture. Victoria, -2500, on Currie’s building and stock New Zealand, .£350, on Keenan’s boarding house, and <£7s on Swinard’s stock. Norwich Union .£SOO on Cogvin’s building and furniture Railway Accident. The goods train from Christchurch due here at 0.30 last night, ran into a horse and dray driven by a German named Neiss, which happened to be crossing the line at the north town boundary. The dray was smashed and the horse seriously injured. Neiss was thrown out of the dray and a good deal cut about the head. He was taken to the Hospital, and is progressing favorably.
Invercargill, Marc 5. Easter Demonstration at Invercargill.
The Easter demonstration ground selection committee yesterday proceeded to select a piece of ground. They found a splendid piece on the new Invercargill and Eivtrton line which is not yet opened. The contractors, Messrs Miller, Murray, and Walker, are wi n ing to allow a portion to be used, and, if the Government do not wish to be responsible, they will draw excursion trains down the line with their ballast engines. The country is level and fringed with bush, and, with two or three undulations, and will be very suitable for artillery and spectators. A young man fell from a ladder thirty feet. He died at the Hospital. Mr Varley’s meeting was again crowded. Mr Hoskins’s lecture re Yorick is much admired.

John Henry Percy, who confessed to having accidentally fired a haystack at Masterton, has been arrested for forging a cheque for six guineas.

The insurance losses on the late fire are estimated at £5 The strong room of the Bank of Australasia was broken open this morning, the papers were scorched but not materially damaged, the sealing wax was not melted. The Bank will be immediately rebuilt either with or without galvanized iron.
Greymouth, March 5. Gold Twining’ Ac ;; dent. A miner named Dennis Hurley was killed by tbe fall of earth at Maori Gully yesterday. A New Gold Discovery. Anew firdof alluvial gold has been discovered six miles from Greymouth. Two hundred miners are on tbe ground. The friendly societies are getting up a fete for tbe benefit of the sufferers of the Raitangata disaster.
