SYDENHAM. Monday, Mabch 3. TBeforo G. L. Mellish, Judge.] The Assessment Court sat at 10 a.m. There wero twenty-nino notices of objection filed, but of these only four appeared. The following objections were dealt with : Agricultural and Pastoral Association, valued at £420. Assessment to stand. George Dalton, assessment, house £2B, to stand. House £ls, to stand. House £ls to stand. House £IG, reduced to £ls. Edward Jones, land rated at £l2, reduced to £7. George H. Sharpe, house £3O, reduced to £23. House £l4, reduced to £l3. House reduced to £l3. Two houses, each reduced from £l9 to £l7. Mr E. C. J. Stevens appeared as agent for Mr B. Lancaster, and applied to have a section rated to him taken off the roll, as not belonging to Mr Lancaster. Mr Mellish granted the application, and the section was struck off the roll in accordance with Mr Stevens' application. Mr Stevens then objected to the rating of Hon. Mr Hall's section at £75. Mr Outhbert said that he had based his rating on valuing tho land at £2OOO per acre. Mr Stevens urged that this was far in excess of what was asked for the land and what had been got for land in the neighborhood. If the valuator had based this valuation on the fact'ithat railway sidings could be got, he urged that until the sidings were granted this should not come into consideration. It must be recollected that the sidings would only bo granted on condition of their being worked by the applicant, and not for a marketable matter. Land in part of this section had been sold quite recently for £6OO. The assessment was reduced as follows : Four acres and half, reduced from £127 to £120; 3a. 24r.,t0 £56 ; lr. 20p., to £ls.
