NEW ZEALAND. [from our OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Oamaru, February 21. _ Very little grain is now remaining uncut in this district; threshing operations are in full swing. Grain is now beginning to come in. > o far as it is competent to judge at present, the crop is more than an average one, while tue quality generally is first-class. Few transactions have yet taken place. Wheat is quoted at the low figure of 3s, and an advance m price is not expected. Oats are worth 2s (id to <-.9 od._ Sub-Lieutenant Morris, and Volumccr !-■ Harding left for Christchurc at noon to-day, cn route to Nelson, to take part in the rifle matches at the New Zealand Rifle Association. ■ Invercargill- February 21. The demonstration yesterday, to the Governor at the Bluff was highly successful. A large party of Volunteers with band, the Mayors and Corporations of [lnvercargill and Campbletown mat him. An address was presented, and complimentary speeches interchanged. The steamer got in soon after five and left at seven. The Governor received a salute of seventeen . guns, and a similar compliment was paid him on leaving. [PER PRESS AGENCY.] Auckland, February 21. The Waste Lands Board having recommended the setting apart of reserves for the Auckland Museum, Hospital, and Asylum, the Minister of Lands wrote stating that the law only provided for the reservation of education reserves, and that therefore he had no power to give effect to their re ’ommendation. The Board then passed a resolution in favor of amending the Act to make provision for such cases. Large parcels of New Zealand Insurance shares are offered at 655, and South British at 565. The Mayor having received a request from the Provost of Glasgow, invites contributions in connection with the City of Glasgow Bank failure, before the departure of the outward mail. A memorial in favor of an inland route for the Kaipara railway is being signed. Another memorial for the restoration of the timber duty is spoken of, the timber trade of the province having suffered seriously through the adulteration of the tariff. The Kowena has arrived from Tanranga with Captain Worsp. He reports that if the weather continues fine there is every probability of getting the Tanpo off the rocks. The number of lunatics in Auckland Asylum Is 192. About i< 0 Natives are expected to attend the Maori Parliament at Orakei. There are great bush fires in Kaipara, and serious destruction of valuable kauri forests. Hokitika, February 21. The body of a man was fonnd on the bea hof the South Spit by Scott, a boatman, yesterday afternoon. He reported the same to the police. The body was identified as that of J. Gracy , alias Jack the Slinger, alias John De Grass. He had been missing since the 14th instant. His mate Henry Palmer is now on his way from Ross. The inquest is at 2 p.m. to day.
