CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, Febetjaey 18. [Before CK L. Mellish, Esq., R.M., and GK I k. Lee, Esq., J P.] Dbune and Dxsoederxy. Elizabeth Lynch was charged with being drunk and disorderly and committing a breach of the peace. The accused denied having had more than two glasses of beer. Constable Cleary deposed to arresting t e accused, who was noisily drunk and beating her daughter in the street. Sho was fined 10s. George Chappell was fined 10s. William Beechey, in addition to being drunk, was on the evidence of Sergeant Hughes, proved to have male use of obscene 'language in his own house, but within hearing of persons outside. A fine of 10s was imposed. John Jones was mulcted in the same amount. Deseetion.— John William. Carter was brought up on warrant charged with deserting from the ship Waikato. Mr Neck appeared for the accused, and stated it was not a case of desertion,only of being absent without leave, Mr Mellish said that would be a matter for the consideration of the Lyttelton Bench, before whom, at the request af Mr Inspector Hickson, the accused would be remanded until the 19 th inst.
