The barques Vindex and Sunbeam sailed yesterday for Newcastle, the German barque Marie for Port Chalmers, with part original cargo from Mauritius, the Wave of Life for Havelock, and the brig Firoflv for Newcastle. The schooner Croydon Lass, Captain Curran, arrived on Friday night last, four days from Nelson, with a cargo of timber. Gn the 10th had the wind N.W., followed by a S.E. gale on the 11th and 12th ; was oil Stephen’s Island on the latter date; wind changed to light N.W. On ThursTay had a light wind from the southward to Kaikoura, thouco N.E. to arrival. The fore-and-aft schooner Reward, Captain Westlake, arrived on the 14th from Motouan, having left there at noon of that date. Reports strong easterly wind and heavy sea. _ The Government steamer Hinemon, Captain Fairchild, with the European mail via San Francisco, arrived at twenty minutes past twelve yesterday afternoon, seventeen hours from Wellington, and but seventy-three hours from Auckland, inclusive of stoppages at Napier and Wellington. Between Auckland and Napier she was but thirtythree hours, beiug but an hour more than too fastest run on record, and that was a smooth water passage, whereas the Hinemoa, for a hundred miles, had to face a hard south-west gale and head sea. Captain Fairchild reports sighting a large ship off Capa Campbell, making to the southward. After landing seventy-three sacks of mail matter, she sailed at 12.50 p.m. for Port Chalmers. tSe CHILE, FROM LONDON. The barque reported iu the shipping news in this morning’s "Press,” as being signalled last night, proved to be the above vessel, 105 days from London, with twenty-five passengers all well, and a fnll general cargo, about 400 tons of which is for the Bluff. Messrs Edwards, Bennett and Co., are her agents.
