RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting for despatch of ordinary business was held on Friday evening la*t. Present, the Mayor (Mr Blackett) and all the Councillors Copies of letters sent by authority to the Council were read and approved. A telegram was received from Mr A. M. Smith on the subject of the adjustment of accounts between the Mandeville and R mgiora Road Board and tho borough. A letter was received from Mr E. Cuthbert re cattle pens at the railway station From Mr W. M. Hannay, per Commis.-ioner of Railways, decaning to allow a crossing to be made over the railway line in continuation of tie Station road, but offering to allow one to be made further up the line. Cr. Boyd moved “ That the clerk apply to the owners of property to give sufficient land for a road to be carried through from Rowley’s brick field to the east town belt, and then to ask the resident engineer to grant a roadway across the line, and form tho same.” Seconded by Cr. Burt, and carried. A circular was read from the secretary of the Glasgow Bank Relief Fund, asking the assistance of the Council in collect ng subscriptions. The Mayor proposed— ‘‘That subscription lists be opened and placed on the counters at ihe different Banks, and a copy in the town clerk’s office.” Seconded by Cr. Robinson, and carried. A circular from the Colonial Secretary’s Office, re Eating Act, 1876, was also read. A letter was received from Mr C. F. Pemberton, asking for part payment of money on the Borough maps. Cr. Robinson moved that £26 be paid on account. Seconded by Cr. Boyd and carried. From Mr E. Kossiter, asking for a progress payment on account of his contract for erection of stables. Cr. Cone moved^ “ That £25 be paid.” Seconded by Cr. White and carried. Mr Ollivier’s award re allocation of funds between the Mandeville Road Board and the Borough, as published in the Peess of Saturday was then read. The surveyor’s report was read and considered. It was decided to have a culvert in High street repaired until the levels of the streets are available. The surveyor reported that the repairs to the Pound had been completed, and that be bad received tenders for the old wood. It was decided to accept the poundkeeper’s tender for the same. It wa? decided that the Mayor, Crs. Cone and Boyd should inspect the cottage on the Borough laud, and report what repairs are necessary to put it into habitable condition. Cr. Boyd moved—- “ That the clerk, in taking down the names of councillors present at the meetings of the Council, take note of those who came in late, and the time at which each lata member arrives at the Chamber.” Seconded by Cr. Luxton and carried. Crs. Boyd and Cone consented to adjourn proposing their motions of which notice had been given, and Cr. Good moved that the Council adjourn, which was carried. The clerk reported receipts for the last fortnight, £4O 13s lid; accounts paid, £llß Us 7d ; balance in Bank, £2BO Is 11a. The Council then adourned.
