WAIKATO RACES.

Auckland, February 12. The Waikato races took place to-day. TURF CLUB HANDICAP. Gillie Galium 1 Flirt i ... 2 Malvern 3 Memento and Tattapa also run. Pungawerewere and Harry Mount were scratched. Yattapa led at the start, and retained the lead up the straight. At the turn the horses all got in a cluster, and Malvern made a grand rush through the field, and led to the turn. There was an evident struggle for first place past the stand, Gillie Callum pressing Malvern hard. Flirt here shot out, and Gillie Callum dropped to third place, Memento a good fourth. The final turn round was most exciting. Whips wore freely used, and the race home between Gillie and Flirt 1 ft the former winner on the post. Time, 3min. 2sec, Betting—The Waikato people backed Flirt and Memento heavily against the Auckland horse. WAIKATO STAKES. Rally ... ... ... 1 Memento ... ... ... 2 Robin Hood also ran.* Memento made the running, but Rally collared him and they ran neck and neck into the straight for home, Rally winning by half-a-length. Clover ... ... ... 1 Six others started, and the race was a good one. There was a largo attendance, and great satisfaction was expressed by the visitors. There was a serious accident in the morning. A cart containing two men, three women, and children was backed by the horse over a bridge into the water. By a miracle all escaped, though wet and bruised.
