SWIMMING BATHS.
To the Editor of the Globe. SlE,—Some time has now elapsed since the attention of the Council was called to the above baths. It was then brought before their notice that the Antigua sweet drain, carrying all the rubbish as it were straight into the baths, and also the drainage from the Hospital, was injurious to those who p itroniaed the above baths, and, if I remember rightly, it was then promised that some steps would be taken to abate the nuisance; " But lo and behold!" instead of some steps being taken to abate it, it is at the present time being furthered, for if some of our benevolent councillors were to visit the west end of the town they would find men daily engaged pumping dirty water, &c, into the riverj which of course goes to the bath. Now, sir, it is not very agreeable to go and take a bath in dirty water, and the College bithing ground, which had for years been the pubic bathing place, being now stopped, what is to be done ? I should suggest to the Council that when the baths cannot be kept clean they should be cloned until they are clean, whereby the health of the public of Christchurch will be consulted. Thanking you, Mr Editor, for your valuable space accorded me, I am, See., A DAILY FREQUENTER OF THE BATHS. February 10th, 1878.
