CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAY COMPANY.
The first annual meeting of the Christchurch Tramway Company was held this morning, at II o'clock, in Wilson’s buildings, Cashel street. Mr J. Evans Brown occupied the chair. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, said that the limbers for the sleepers and longitudinals had been nearly supplied. They were being delivered at the Christchurch, Papanui, and Addington stalions, so that the permanent way could, if it was thought desirable, be commenced from all the three stations at once. A cablegram had been received announcing the intended shipment in January
of the steel rails and iron work. The two first steam motors were to be shipped from London in March and the shipments would be completed in May. The first carnages were to be shipped from New York in January last, and in three months from then it was anticipated that the whole of them would bo despatched and on their way. Mr Oonnal seconded the adoption of the report, which was unanimously agreed to. In answer to a question from Mr E. C. J. Stevens, the chairman said the directors did not at present anticipate having to call up more than £1 per share during the ensuing twelve months. On the motion of Mr Packer, seconded by Mr Ballantyne, Mr D. Craig was appointed auditor. In moving the adjournment of tbe meeting, the Chairman said that he hoped that the same unanimity would prevail at their next one, and that by that time the company would be able to give practical illustration of the advantages of street tramways. The directors would, in the meantime, do all in their power in the interest of the shareholders to ensure economy and efficiency, both in construction and management. The meeting then adjourned.
