MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHEISTCHUECH. Fbiday, Febeuaey 7. [Before a. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.J Dbunk and Disobdebly. Alexander Kellatt was charged with being drunk and disorderly and insulting respectable females in the street. He was fined 10s. William Burgose for drunkenness and using obscene language when arrested, was fined 20s. John Peters was fined 10s, and a first offender ss. Margaret Mahoney for drunkenness and making use of obscene language was ordered to pay 20s. Margaret Shannon, charged with the same offence was remanded until the following day. Francis Mahoney, charged with drunkenness was defended by Mr Neck. As there appeared a doubt as to the defendant's condition, the Bench gave him the benefit of it, and discharged him. Misappropriating a CiiKQtTE.—Robert Vinson, on remand, was charged with the misappropriation of a cheque, for £24, entrusted to him as an agent. Mr Neck appeared for the accused, who was already out on bail. Mr Neck applied for its enlargement to Napier, where the alleged misappropriation had taken place, and the accused was accordingly remanded there until the 15th instant, the same bail being allowed.
LYTTELTON. Friday, February 7. [Before Dr. Domild and H. Allwright, Esq.] Insulting Languagk.—Mrs Jemima Smith and Mrs Shcppard appeared as complainants against a seaman named John
Murray, for using insulting language towards them, on the 4th irs'p.nt, at the coffre-hoiiße and refreshment rooms kept by the latter lady in Oxford street. Mr H. N. Nalder appeared in their behalf. The defendant w&s sent to gaol for fourteen days with hard labo.ir.
