It is improbsteamer Albion Captain Tozer, arrived alongside the Wharf at half-past ten o'clock yesterday morning from Port Chalmers, Bluff and Melbourne. She left Sandr.dge railway Ser at 3 15 p.m. on the 14th, cleared Port Philip Seads at V p.m. same day, passed Wi son's Promon. tory at 4.20 a.m., and Swan Island at 4 45 on the IStii carried light variable winds to the Solanders. Sh we™ parsed at 10.45 a.m on the 19th ; from thence fresh north-westerly winds, with occasional rain to the Bluff, which was reached at 5 o clock same evening. Left the following day at 5 p.m., with a fresh breeze from the south, arrived at Port Onalmers at 6 a.m. on 21st. Sailed thence at 4 nVWIc Tuesday afternoon, and had clear weather and smooth sea along the Coast. After landing ■U nassenirers and 40 tons of cargo, and receiving WpSSSSS she left for Wellington at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. In an article commenting upon the propriety ot dredging the bar at the Otngo Heads, the Dnnedin "Herald" says:—"lt maybe mentioned that the Harbor Board lately had the bar surveyed. Captain Thomson and Pilot Kelly, in accordance with instructions, tested it upon a calm day, and found the actual depth of water and the shape of the bar with all tho exactness possible. They found that the bar does not measure more thani 60ft across and that there is water 25ft deep at low tide almost immediately upon each side of it. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Auckland, January 22. Sailed—Ringarooina for Hobart Town. Bluff, January 22. Arrived—Hinemoa from Dnnedin. Sailed—Hinemoa for Puseygur Point. The next mail for the United Kingdom via San Fraucisco, will close at Christchurch on February Ist, and will be due in London on March 18th. The next mail for the United Kingdom via Southampton and Brindisi will close at Christchurch on February 12th. Tho mail via Brindisi will be due in London on April 7th, and the mail via Southampton on April 14th. NOTICE. A travelling Post Office having beon established on the Southern line of railway, letters bearing a late fee of two pence may be posted at any station in the mail carriago attached to the express tram, and they will be included in the mails made up in transit for offices on the main line and branches.
