CANTERBURY MUSEUM.

The following contributions were received by the Canterbury Museum during tho quarter ending December 31st, 1878 :

Mrs Powey—Specimen of Parmopborus Australia, picked up on tho Sumner beach.

Messrs Dalgety, Nichols, and Co., samples of grain grown in Canterbury. Mr A. Oundersen —Five silver and five copper Scandinavian coins. Mr T. E. Pickett, Christchurch—Specimens of Naultinus Pacificus (New Zealand Rock Q-ecko).

Captain G-. Mair, Wellington—Six specimens of Hatteria punctata (Tuatara), obtained by him on the Island of Karewa, Buy of Plenty. Mr C. H. Robson, Moeraki Lighthouse— One specimen of Thalassidroma Nereis ; one of Prion Turtur (Whalebird) ; one of Halodroma urinatrix (Diving Petrel). Mr J. D. Enys, F.G.S., Castlehill Station —Collection of Btone implements from the State of New York, North America. Three Promiesorv Notes of Tasmania, of 1823, 1826, and 1840."

Mr Eraser, contractor, Malvern Waterworks—Rocks with fossils from the Mount Torlesae beds.

Mr Richard Oliver, buildor, Knightstown— Piece of granite from, the Duke of Welling, ton's Sarcophagus. Quarried at Luxulyan, Corn well.

Mr H. Turnley, Uokitika—Specimens of marble, copper ore, and other rocks from Caswell Sound, Weßt Coast of Otago. Messrs Austin and Kirk, Christchurch— Terra Cotta vaso with vine leaf and grape ornaments, manufactured by them. Mr Edward Mackenzie, Christchurch, and Mr D. McG-uinneßs, New Brighton —Specimen of Epiodon Chathamiensis, goose-beaked, whale. •'

Dr. L. Powell, F.L.S.—Collection of New Zealand and foreign Arachnids. Mr W. J. Taylor, Cleidenhurst, Malvern— Specimen of Nemosia GHlliesii, trap-door spicier, and ne3t, obtained in Malvern district. Mr G. E. Allen, Christchurch—Specimen of Helix Busboi, from tho Kaipara district, North Island.

Mr H. Ell, Christchurch—Three fishes caught at Sumner. Mr G-. H. Moore, G-lenmark—Specimen of Eudynareis taitenßis, long-tailed cuckoo. Mr Robt. G-illies, E.L.S.—Series of specimens of Nemosia Oitliesii, Gillies' Trap-door Spider, collected near Oamaru. Mr John Eliis, New Brighton—Maori skull, found amongrt (he Sandhills, New Brighton. Sir Thos. Tailored, Bart., Orari Gorge— Coll' etion of foroign ores, minerals, rocks, and fossils. Seven silver coins, and 32 bronze ooiw. Mr G-. P. [Rusterholy, Christchurch—Collection of coins, consisting of 13 silver coins, 72 bronze and copper coins and medals, 20 Roman bronze coins, six nirkel coins. Mr W. Watkins, Akaroa—Collection of specimens of rocks. Messrs Snow and Arson, Peraki Station, Banks' Peninsula—Specimen of Monucanthus convoxirostris [Leather jicket.) Mr James H.
