POST OFFICE NOTICES
Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the tollomng places as under, subjeot to tho neoessary alterations:Wednesday, January Ist (New Tear's Day), hem? a Post office holiday, mails for despatch on that day will be closed at this office on Tuesday, Doc. at 8 p.m. The delivery window will he open between 8 and 9 p.m. on Tuesday, when correspondence usually delivered by letter carriers can be obtained. . . _ THURSDAY, JANUARY 2. For Kaikoura and Wellington, per Tui, at 4.35 p.m. Late letter box, guard's van, must not be nsod for Tui's mails. FRIDAY, JANUARY 3. For the United Kingdom, Continent of Europe, America, via San Francisco, Australian colonies, and Northern ports of New Zealand, per Tararua, at 5.15 p.m. Late fee letters G p.m.; late letter box, guard's van, G.30p.m., special train. Registered loiters at 1 p.m. Books and newspapers at 4 p.m. Money orders at 3.30 p.m. The mail will be due in Loudon on February 18th, 1879. The next mail for the United Kingdom, via Southampton and Briudisi, will close at Christchurch on Jan. 15th. The mail via Southampton will bo due in London on March 17th, and tho mail via Brindision Marchlloth, 1879. BVDNEY J.DICK, Chief Postmaster.
