POST OFFICE NOTICES

Mails olose at the Chief Post Offloe for the following places as under, subject to the neoeseary alterations : TUESDAY, DECEMBER 31. For Northern Ports, per Ladybird, at 3.15 p.m.; late fee letters, 3.35 p.m.; late letter box, guard's van, 4 p.u. tiain. Wednesday, January Ist (New Year's Day), being a Post office holiday, mails for despatch on that day will be closed at this office on Tuesday, Dec. 31st, at 8 p.m. 'the delivery window will be open between 8 and 9 p.m. on Tuesday, when correspondence usually delivered by letter carriers may be obta,ned. ~„„., . _ The next mail for the United Kingdom, via San Francisco, will close at Christchurch on January Brd, and will be due in London on February 18th, 1879. The next English mails via Southampton and Brin-iisi willclo3e at Christchurch on January 15th. The mail via Southampton will be duo in Loudon on March 17th, and the mail via Brindisi on March 10th, 1879. , „ On and after 2nd January prox. there will be a free delivery of correspondence in the districts of St. Albans, Phillipstown, Bingsland, Caledonian road, Cashel street east, Knightstown, and Addiugton • consequently the Post Offices at those places will' be discontinued, and receiving boxes, to be leared twice daily, will be substituted. In order to facilitate the delivery, residents are requested to get their letters addressed as fully as Correspondence for persons who reside beyond the free delivery will, at their request, be left at any store or house within the bounds of the deliVery ' SYDNEY J.
