FATAL ACCIDENT.

About noon to-day a little boy, about six years of age, named William White, the son of Mr White, saddler, Victoria street, was run over by the Papanui omnibus, driven by Alfr ed Drain. The little fellow was attempting to cross the Whateley road from the west side, a. little above the Victoria bridge, when the omnibus came up at a moderate pace. The d river, seeing the child in the road, shouted out and tried to avoid him, but the near herse knocked him down, and both the near front and hind wheels passed over his body, inflicting fatal injuries. He was picked up and 1 , immediately taken to the hospital, but expired before he reached it. Those who witnessed the accident state that no blame was attributable to the driver, who did his best in the first place to warn the child, and afterwards to drive clear of him. An inquest will be held on Monday.
