♦ NEW ZEALAND TELEGBAMS. [from the correspondent OF THE PRESS'] Dunedin, December 27. _ At Lawrence races to-day Cloth of Gold again won the principal handicap. The racing was very unsatisfactory. To-morrow’s athletic sports are exciting much attention. The principal events are a five mile walking match for .£SO between Carr and Cotton, and a five mile race between Burke and Shepard, ... The Walton Park Coal Co. has declared a dividend of Is 6d per share. The report says, in the terms of a resolution of last general meeting, the directors having had inducements held out to them by the Minister of Public Works of a reduction of Is p r ton on all coal carried in their own wagons, ordered the iron work of twenty five wagons from Home, which has now arrived, and the wagons are now being built. The directors now find that the Government have withdrawn the concession formerly offered, and now propose that a rebate of Id per loaded wagon per mile shall be allowed, a rate which the directors need not say will barely supply grease for the wheels.)
