POST OFFICE NOTICES

Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places as under, subject to the necessary alterations SATURDAY, DECEMBER 28. For Otago, per Hawea, at 11.30 a.m.; late fee letters, 11.50 am.; late letter box, guard’s van, 12.10 p.m. train. . For Northern ports, per Taupo, at 0,15 p.m.; late fee letters, 335 p.m.; late letter-box. guard s Van. 4 p.m. train. MONDAY, DECEMBER 30. For Otago and Australian Colonies, per Albion, at 1130 a.m.; late fee letters, 11.50 a.m.; late letfc.r box, guard’s van, 12 10 p.m. tiain. The next mail tor the United Kingdom, via San Francisco, will close at Christchurch on January Brd, and will be due in London on February 18th, **The next English mails via Southampton and Brituisi will close at Christchurch on January 15th. The mail via Southampton will be due in London on March 17th, and the mail via Brindisi on March 10th, 1879. On and after 2nd January prox. there will be a free delivery of correspondence iu the districts of Bt. Albans, Phillipstown, Bingsland, Caledonian road, Cashel street east, Knightstown, and Addington ; consequently the Post Offices at those places will’ be discontinued, and receiving boxes, to be cleared twice daily, will be substituted. In order to facilitate the delivery, residents are requested to get their letters addressed as fully as for persons who reside beyond the free delivery will, at their request, be left at any store or house within the bounds of the deliVery ‘ SYDNEY J.
