POST OFFICE NOTICES
Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places as under, subject to the necessary ■lterations : TUESDAY. DECEMBER 24. For Otago and Australian Colonies, per Eingarooma, at 1.50 p.m.; late fee letters, 2.10 p.m,; late letter box, guard’s van, 2.40 p.m. train. For Wanganui and Taranaki, per St, Kilda, at 11.30 a.m.; late fee letters, 11 50 a.m.; late letter box, guard’s van, 12.10 p in, train. Note.—-Wednesday, 25th inst. (Christmas day), being a Post office holiday, mails for despatch on that day will be closed at this office on Tuesday, 24th, at 8 p.m. The delivery window will be open between 8 and 9 p.m. on Tuesday, when correspondence usually delivered by letter carriers may be obtained. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 26. For Northern ports, per Albion, at 11.30 a.m.; late fee letters, 11.50 a.m.; late letter-box, guard’s van, 12.10 p.m. train. The next mail for the United Kingdom, via San Francisco, will close at Christchurch on January 3rd, and will be due in London on February 18th, 1879. On and after 2nd January prox, there will be a free delivery of correspondence in the districts of St. Albans, Phillipstown, Bingsland, Caledonian road, Cashel street east, Knightstown, and Addington ; consequently the Post Offices at those places will be discontinued, and receiving boxes, to be Cleared twice daily, will be substituted. In order to facilitate the delivery, residents are requested to get their letters addressed as fully as possible. Correspondence for persons who reside beyond the free delivery will, at their request, be left at any store or house within the bounds of the delivery. SYDNEY J. DICK, Chief Postmaster.
