POST OFFICE NOTICES
Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places as under, subject to the necessary alterations s FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20, For Northern ports, per Southern Cross, at 13.15 p.m.: late fee letters, 3.35 p.m.; late letter-box, guard’s van, 4 p.m. train. For Northern ports and Australian Colonies, per Wakatipu, at 3.15 p.m.; late fee letters, 3.35 p.m. 5 late letter-box, guard’s van, 4 p.m. train. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21. For Northern ports, per Wanaka, at 4.45 p.m.; late letter-box, guard’s van, must not be used for Wanaka’s mails. For Otago, per Taupo, The next mail for the United Kingdom, via San JVancisco, will close at Christchurch on January Srd, and will be due in London on February 18th, 1879, A Post Office has been opened at Horrelville, on the north line, between West Eyreton and Bennett's. Mails close at the Head Office, Christchurch, daily at 6 a.m.» and at Horrelville daily, at 4 p.m., and arrive at Christchurch daily, at 7.30 p.m. On and after 2ud January pros, there will be a fi*ee delivery of correspondence in the districts of St. Albans, Phillipstown, Bingsland, Caledonian toad, Cashel street east, Knightstown, and Addington ; consequently the Post Offices at those places Will be discontinued, and receiving boxes, to be cleared twice daily, will be substituted. In order to facilitate the delivery, residents are requested to get their letters addressed as fully as possible. Correspondence for persons who reside beyond the free delivery will, at their request, be left at any store or house within the bounds of the delivery. SYDNEY J. DICK. Chief Postmaster,
