CRICKET.

MARRIED v SINGLE. Last Saturday morning was not very promising for cricket, but the rain cleared off during the afternoon, and the above match was commenced. The Single were first at the wickets, Neilson and Ashby being the first representatives. Runs came quickly, and telegraph was constantly changed, Ashby especially scoring fast. At last one from Fuller went in off Ashby’s pads, the first wicket falling for 61, of which the retiring batsman claimed 38, made by three 4’s, five 3’s, three 2’s, &c, Watson joined Neilson, but in attempting a short one was easily run out, two for 86. Hart-land came next, and the score again progressed, Neilson hitting the bowling about very freely. The 100 soon appeared, and 110 was raised before any alteration was made. Neilson soon afterwards gave his first chance, but Ollivier did not hold it; he was, however, run out during the next over without any alteration in the score. His score of 54 was well made, and included two 4’s, three 3’s, and eleven 2’s. He should have been run out previously but escaped. C. Frith played steadily for a time, but was caught behind the wicket —five for 130. None of the rest scored at all, Hartland being not out for 20, mado without a chance. It was just six o’clock when the last wicket fell, and us it was only a one day’s match, it was decided to put the net up so that those who were going to Victoria might have some batting practice.
